The orange and very aromatic turmeric root is recognized as a powerful anti-inflammatory, sold in all its forms in our natural stores.

In addition, it helps the liver by facilitating fat digestion.

Its essential oil diluted in a lipotropic vegetable oil, such as safflower or sunflower oil, applied topically to congested areas, produces similar effects.

In cooking, it can be added at the end of cooking to rich, exotic or non-exotic dishes.

Origin of this essential oil

This organic turmeric essential oil from Sri Lanka is distilled from the roots of the plant.

Precautions for use

• Caution in case of gastric or duodenal ulcer
• Contraindicated in case of large gallstones
• Undesirable associations with certain chemotherapies
• Avoid association with anticoagulants

More information

Turmeric is also called Curry, Indian Saffron, Bourbon Saffron.

It is an erect herbaceous species 60 to 100 cm high with a creeping rhizome.

It originates from the Far East (India and Malaysia) and was introduced to the West Indies and Reunion Island.

Main components of the essential oil

• Monocyclic sesquiterpenes: hydrocarbons (zingiberene (25%), beta-curcumene and delta-curcumene), ar-curcumene
• Oxygenated sesquiterpenes (ketones): turmerone (60%): ar-turmerone (or aromatic turmerone), beta-tumerone, alpha-tumerone (traces), curlone, atlantones
• Monoterpenes: alpha-phellandrene
•         Curcuma xanthorriza Rosc. contains approximately 65% alpha-curcumene
