Glyceryl Stearate SE (emulsifying wax)

100g – kraft resealable bag

INCI: glyceryl stearate

Use: between 2 to 5% concentration depending on the thickness of the desired cream.

Glyceryl stearate SE is a vegetable fatty acid. It is an important ingredient in the manufacture of creams because it is an “emulsifier”. This means that it allows the water and the oil to mix together. The “SE” means that it is “Self-Emulsifying”.

Face cream basic recipe

For 100g (approximately 120ml) of cream:

  • Oily phase:
    • 3g of stearic acid
    • 5g of Glyceryl Stearate SE emulsifying wax
    • 14g of your favorite oil (sunflower, jojoba, olive, …) or macerate (carrot roots, calendula flower, …)
  • Aqueous phase :
    • 63g of hydrosol of your choice (or water)
    • 15g aloe gel (or water)
  • If desired, 2 drops of your favorite and safe essential oil for the face (our favorites: tea tree, lavender, chamomile and neroli). Do not use citrus essential oils as they are photosensitive.

  • Scale accurate to 0.1g of preferences (or 1g)
  • 2 small saucepans (or double boiler)
  • a spatula to mix and scrape the bottom of the pan.
  • a hand mixer (for 100ml of cream) or a hand blender (for 500ml and more)

Manual :

  1. In a saucepan, heat your oily phase over low heat
  2. In a second saucepan, heat your aqueous phase over low heat
  3. When your 2 phases are at a temperature of 55 degrees, pour the aqueous phase into the oily phase.
  4. First mix quickly with the spatula, then mix with the mixer. When the mixture is homogenized, scrape the sides and bottom with the spatula to make sure everything mixes well.
  5. Continue in the blender until the temperature of the cream drops to 35 degrees. To speed up the cooling process, place the pot in a bowl of cold water.
  6. Add your essential oil. Start with 2 drops and add as needed according to your preferences. Remember it will be in your face!
  7. Put the cream in your container. It is better to wait until the cream has cooled completely to prevent the water and oil from separating.

Happy creation!
